Functional Osteo treatment at Mixed Osteo Kensington. Dr Luke Smith Osteopath helping patient with back pain.

Osteopathic Functional Treatment

A functional treatment takes your function into account.

Typically, an assessment at Mixed Osteo begins with gait analysis to gain a sense of your overall movement. Then we'll examine your specific functional movements, whether they're walking, sitting, lifting, digging, exercising, or martial arts-related (kicking, punching, bridging, blocking, and sprawling).

Paying close attention to the actions that cause you pain or cause you to perform poorly. Following your functional assessment, if treatment is indicated for your condition, we will begin.

Treatment typically begins in similar positions to those in which you were successful and progresses to those in which you were less successful or experienced pain.

The treatment is frequently administered on our upright treatment table ( true-stretch cage).

We can quickly provide you with take-home exercises based on this treatment style that we know are safe for you to perform at home and produce results because we tested them during the treatment!

Functional-based treatment is based on the principles of Applied Functional Science (AFS) and biomechanics and employs movement-based techniques known as functional manual reaction (FMR). This method was developed over the course of several years of study at the Gray Institute, the world leaders in AFS.

The best results come from assessing and treating your functional and mechanical insufficiencies.
