Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain is a common presenting complaint to our osteopathy clinic in Kensington. Clients often report to have developed shoulder pain whilst at work (sedentary /office desk work or physical work) or whilst training and competing. We have a very active group of clients who are regularly undertaking sports such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MMA/UFC (mixed martial arts), Kickboxing, Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Judo, Powerlifting and resistance training (gym), running, swimming, cycling, tennis, AFL, Rugby, walking etc.
All of these pursuits and jobs can result in the onset of shoulder pain and some of the more common shoulder complaints presenting to the clinic include shoulder impingement syndrome, subacromial bursitis, tendinopathy/ tendonitis of the rotator cuff or biceps, muscle strains to the biceps or rotator cuff, adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), shoulder instability (be it traumatic or repetitive overuse) and post shoulder surgery referrals.
The shoulder can be one of the most challenging parts of the body when it comes to injuries and management. It is often referred to as the most mobile and unstable. The Shoulder girdle consists of the humerus, scapular, clavicle and its attachments to the thoracic spine/ribs. The Glenohumeral (GH) joint is the ball and socket joint that allows for maximum mobility. The shoulder is attached to the rest of the skeleton via the clavicle and therefore there are many joints and soft tissues that can be part of the problem when a shoulder injury occurs.
Typically when you present to our osteopathy clinic with shoulder pain, your first consultation will involve taking a case history, followed by an assessment and discussion with what is thought to be going on. Treatment may involve manual therapy, movement therapy, pain management advice and exercise prescription, followed up by a management plan.
Our Osteopath is focused on ensuring you are provided with an evidence informed approach to treatment and that the reason you attended the clinic is addressed to ensure the best outcome.
