Remedial Massage for Shoulder Tightness After Heavy Training

Remedial Massage for Shoulder Tightness After Heavy Training

Shoulders take load from almost every direction — pushing, pulling, overhead work, and in combat sports, grip fighting and striking on top of that. It's one of the more complex areas to manage well.

Why shoulders get tight so easily

Unlike a joint like the knee, the shoulder relies heavily on surrounding muscles for stability, which means those muscles are almost constantly working — and prone to accumulating tightness when training volume is high.

Common patterns we see

Tightness through the upper traps and around the shoulder blade is common in people who train a lot of pushing and pulling without much balance between the two, or who spend a lot of time gripping.

What remedial massage can help with

Targeted work on the surrounding musculature can ease general tightness and improve how the shoulder feels moving through its range. It's not a substitute for addressing an imbalance in your training if that's the underlying cause.

When it's more than tightness

Sharp pain, weakness, or pain that's worse at night are signs to get assessed rather than massaged — our osteopath treats shoulder pain and injuries.
