When to See an Osteopath Instead of Booking a Massage

When to See an Osteopath Instead of Booking a Massage

We get this question a lot, and it's a genuinely useful one to ask before you book, rather than after.

Signs massage is the right call

General tightness without sharp pain, tension that's been building gradually from training or work, or wanting ongoing maintenance alongside regular training.

Signs osteopathy is the better fit

Pain rather than tightness, especially anything sharp or localised to a joint. Something that started at a specific moment — a tweak, a fall, a bad landing. Anything that's not improving, or is getting worse, despite rest. Numbness, tingling, or weakness anywhere.

Not sure which applies?

Book whichever feels closest to what you're describing. Nick and Dr Luke Smith work in the same clinic, and if massage isn't the right fit for what's going on, you'll be told plainly and pointed towards osteopathy instead.

The short version

Tightness → massage. Pain, injury, or something you want diagnosed → osteopathy. Genuinely unsure → ask, don't guess.
